Two Dates and a Dash Podcast Ep.100: Former Elite Athletes Turned Athlete Mental Health Advocates, Meagan Yates and Trevor Sasek

Meagan was a member of Philadelphia University's soccer program where she was a three-year captain and defender. Meagan's experience with an unfulfilled ending to her athletic career has influenced her dedication in working with individuals who share similar experiences. In addition to Crossover Counseling, Meagan has a counseling practice where she works with individuals, couples, and families; primarily working with those who experience trauma and chronic stress-related issues, problems with self-esteem, and relationship issues. Meagan feels a person's experiences shape their outlook and approach to life, and those seeking change have the potential to grow, if they have the support and environment to do so. Before her private practice and Crossover Counseling, Meagan worked as a counselor for grades 9-12 at a local private school and has provided services for therapeutic tutoring and executive functioning. Meagan has served as a crisis counselor at a domestic violence center in Pennsylvania, along with working at a children’s crisis treatment center, veteran organization, and addictions facility. Meagan is trained in the neurosequential model of therapeutics (NMT), resilience, post-traumatic growth, and trauma-informed expressive arts therapy, and trauma art narrative therapy (TANT). Trevor was a member of the University of Delaware’s football program where he was a four-year letter winner, two-time conference player of the week, and battled injuries for the majority of his career. His experience with a career-ending injury and understanding the unique lifestyle of an athlete has fueled his passion to pursue working with transitioning athletes. In addition to Crossover Counseling, Trevor currently provides group and individual counseling at a non-profit community behavioral health facility focused on opioid addiction. Trevor is an intensive outpatient counselor for young adults with a specialization in trauma-responsive and evidence-based care. Trevor has provided services to individuals with addiction, trauma, anxiety and depression, and relationship issues in the greater Philadelphia community. Trevor specializes in physical, mental, and emotional reactions to different types of stress and is in the process of completing his licensure to become a PA Licensed Professional Counselor. With the combination of his athletic background and mental health training, Trevor provides individuals he works with an opportunity to relate, connect, and move on to their best life after sports.
